Favorite daughter of the Greek God, Zeus,
Pallas Athena or simply, Pallas is known as the goddess of wisdom. Because
of this gift she was charged with overseeing practical arts which included
agriculture and winemaking. On the hill of the Acropolis, the Athenians
built a temple to Pallas – the Parthenon. |

Our philosophy of growing grapes and making wine in an
environmentally safe manner is an important responsibility to land
stewardship and the long-term relationship with our customers, our
neighbors and the world. We
strive to be environmentally friendly, economically sound and socially
responsible with all our winery and viticulture practices. |
|
We have taken many steps to ensure that
our winery operates with sustainable agriculture in mind. We hope to minimize or
prevent potential risks to the environment, the public and our staff. Best Management
Practices Include:
- Vineyard row orientation to minimize erosion
- Buffer zones established with native species
- Invasive plant species removal
- Groundwater quality protection
- Integrated pest and nutrition management programs
- Sediment overflow ponds
- Low impact landscaping
- Hand harvesting
- Controlled or low yield varieties
- Waste product composting
Be sure to ask about our practices when you stop by for a winery tour. |
